THANK  YOU DELAWARE!

Because of the generosity of so many caring people, we were able to assist thousands of families who came to The Salvation Army for help during the 2009 Christmas season.  We provided over 4,000 families with food or food vouchers.  5,000 children received toys, stockings and clothing.  3,000 older adults were visited in nursing homes and received a gift through our "League of Mercy".  Through our prison ministry, 7,000 inmates received a remembrance of the season.

Over 14,000 individuals volunteered in some way to make this possible.  Thank you for giving of your time and braving the elements to be a Bell Ringer. We thank the many businesses who welcomed our volunteer bell ringers as host locations.

The Angel Tree at the Concord Mall and Christiana Mall were a great success.  Thank you for filling nearly 4,000 Christmas stockings and donating hats, coats and toys.  Thank you for taking assistance applications and working in our "Toy Shop".

We are truly grateful for the extra-mile effort of donors and volunteers in Delaware.  During such difficult economic times, please know that your giving brought comfort and joy to our neighbors in need and will continue to throughout the year.

Thank you for sharing with others.

We are already planning for Christmas 2010, and will once again reach out to the community for help.  We'll see you soon!

THANK YOU

DELAWARE!

DOING THE MOST GOOD. . .

DURING THE HARSH WINTER MONTHS

Code Purple is a program open during the winter months to provide emergency shelter for homeless men and women when the temperature reaches 10 degrees or heavy snow is predicted. There, they are given a warm place to sleep, food, an opportunity to shower, warm clothing and information relative to assistance we offer through our other programs. Women and children who need this additional service are placed in our Emergency Housing Residence. One of our staff said, "All the guys are so appreciative. They know we care about them, treat them with respect, share conversation and just make sure they know how important they are." Between the months of December 2008 and March 2009 we opened our doors to 409 men and women offering a safe haven from the freezing winter weather.

Can you help? Our Food Pantry needs to be replenished. As many Delawareans face financial hardships we are seeing more families coming to us for help with food. It's hard to have to choose between paying for needed medicine, electricity or food to feed your family. Especially hard hit are our Seniors who are barely surviving on fixed incomes. We need canned goods such as: Soups, tuna, canned meat, ravioli, spaghetti, fruits and more. Dry Goods like cereal, macaroni & cheese, rice. . .items that can easily be prepared.

Throughout the year we have an ongoing need to replenish supplies for our Emergency Housing Residence for single women and women with children.
