Each day our
family service caseworkers assist people who are hurting
with a variety of complex problems. We provide crisis
alleviation through financial assistance (food, rent,
utilities) and casework intervention. We administer the
following programs: |
| |
|
•The Needy Family Fund is a program
designed to meet crisis needs of families and individuals
when no other resources are available. Financial
Assistance is provided through the Family Service
Departments of The Salvation Army, with funds raised by
The News Journal Company. Clients may be referred to The
Salvation Army for this assistance program in Delaware.
The assistance generally given would be for rent or
mortgage payments (but not security deposits), electric
(other than DP&L), oil, propane or water.
•Good Neighbor Energy Fund (GNEF) is a program which
utilizes funds from Conectiv and its customers, assisting
Delaware residents, particularly the elderly, with gas and
electric bills. Eligible beneficiaries of the program are
residents of Delaware who are in need of assistance in
paying bills rendered by Conectiv for electric or gas
service used in their residence and who do not qualify for
fuel heating emergency assistance from other public or
private sources.
•Operation Share is a program operated in Kent & Sussex
Counties which is administered by The Salvation Army in
conjunction with Delaware Electric Cooperative to assist
residents in paying their DEC electric bills when they are
presented with a disconnect notice.
•Traveler's Assistance is a program in New Castle County
which assists non-Delaware residents who are stranded in
the State. Assistance includes train or bus tickets, minor
engine repairs, gasoline, and food. The Department,
however, does not assist with international travel.
•KIDSCALL is a program in New Castle County sponsored by
AT&T and The Salvation Army, where young people up to age
23 can call, free of charge, back to their hometown. This
program focuses on teen runaways. |

•CAMP
LADORE
- Each Summer through our Family Services Department
and Corps Community Centers, we offer hundreds of children
in Delaware, some who have never been out of the City,
a chance to spend a week in the Poconos at The Salvation
Army’s Camp Ladore. There, young people of varying backgrounds
experience a time of recreation (swimming, boating,
arts, crafts), and a time to learn about each other,
about themselves, and about their world while living
and playing together. |
