We have Family Services offices located in Georgetown at 110 S. Bedford St., Georgetown, DE 19947 and in Seaford at 23431 Sussex Highway, Seaford, DE 19973. We offer help for families and individuals with crisis alleviation by providing financial assistance, resources and referrals. The specific programs include:

The Needy Family Fund(NFF) provides assistance through funds raised by The News Journal Company which are administered by The Salvation Army in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. Clients may be referred to The Salvation Army for this assistance program in Delaware if they are not receiving TANF, SSI, GA or Medicaid. Clients who do receive assistance from the State should go to their local State Service Center.

Good Neighbor Energy Fund (GNEF) provides assistance through funds from Delmarva Power and its customers. Eligible beneficiaries of the program are residents of Delaware who are in need of assistance in paying bills rendered by Delmarva Power for electric or gas service used in their residence and who do not qualify for fuel heating emergency assistance from other public or private sources. Individuals/families who have a TANF, SSI, GA or Medicaid recipient in their household must apply for the Emergency Assistance Fund prior to applying for GNEF.

Operation Share(OS) is a program operated in Kent & Sussex Counties in conjunction with Delaware Electric Cooperative (DEC), to assist residents in paying their DEC electric bills when they are presented with a disconnect notice. Assistance can be given only once a year with guidelines much like those in GNEF.

Food Closet is open Monday through Thursday from 9 AM- 1 PM in the Seaford Office. An ID is required to confirm residence in Sussex County and there is an income requirement.

Christmas Assistance is offered to families by providing toys, filled stockings and clothes for children. Additionally, our staff delivers a small gift to area nursing home residents, to the Sussex Correctional Institute, and, with the help of volunteers, an annual Red Kettle Fund Drive.
